Student notebooks are a must in every grade I’ve taught (from kinder to 6th grade). We take notes, do morning work, center work, or even journaling. There are many things our students use notebooks for. Here are a few ideas for student notebook organization.
Labels
Label those notebooks. How many times do we ask students to get out their Science notebook and they grab their “Morning Work” notebook? Then they write RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT (we’ll get to solving that next)?! It’s funny because I was going to say that it’s especially troublesome in kinder, but in quick reflection, my 6th graders had the same issues HA.
These are easy editable labels that you can print onto stickers and give out to each student to label their notebooks or have them ready to go for the first day of school.
Tabs
I have been using notebooks for as many years I’ve been doing for something or another and it wasn’t until recently that I created these divider tabs. They are LIFE CHANGING.
These tabs are editable and can be used to help divide up your students’ notebooks. In math class, I had a place for warm ups and a place for notes. I wanted the students to utilize their notebooks better and note waste so much paper or lose their places when I say, “open up to your notes page”.
These are two easy student notebook organization ideas to implement that will help with time and student management.
