Happy Friday! My life has been consumed with moving and school! Talk about tired. But we’ve been overloaded with fun activities in 2nd grade thanks to amazing teacher-bloggers, teacher-instagrammers, and pinterest {my 3 favorite places to look now, sorry Google}!
Check out what we’ve been up to thanks to creative teachers everywhere…

Intervention
We started our after school intervention for the kiddos who need just a little {okay…a LOT} more help. I’m the Phonics Intervention Specialist {self appointed ;)}! I love giving phonics instruction. Here are the activities I’ve snagged from other wonderful teachers.
We’ve been overloading the concepts of place value into their little brains this week. Here are some GREAT activities that helped with grasping the different concepts of place value. Total success.
Expanded Form: I love this activity for expanded form and showing the value of each place.
Place Value Initials: I saw this idea from Ms. Amy Lemons from Step Into Second Grade. I modified it a little by using initials only, she did full names. The kids build their initials and count the 10’s and 1’s they used and tell the value of their initials. Fun & a quick check on who knows how to count tens and ones.
Marshmallow Place Value: a fun way to reinforce hundreds, tens, and ones! My kids told me today–can we do this everyday??? If only marshmallows weren’t so sugary..
{I can’t remember where this came from…if you do, please let me know!}
Today is my wonderful big brother’s birthday! Happy Birthday 🙂
Looks like you're working hard and making learning fun! The marshmallow place value activity is from, I believe, Abby Mullins from The Inspired Apple. I first saw it posted on her blog last year or the year before. 🙂 Have a great day!
Hi Jen! What a cute and useful blog you have! I love the chevrons BTW! I came across your blog from the list of 2nd grade blogs listed under Caffeine and Lesson Plan's blog. I, too, am a 2nd grade teacher. I look forward to reading more about what you do in your classroom as the year goes on!
