It’s been a while since I’ve linked up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday! I always get too tired or realize it’s Saturday and feel awkward about it or sometimes I just feel like I don’t have anything exciting to share! grrr.
But I’m doing it because I’m sitting here on a Thursday night preparing {& watching Scandal obviously} so I have the time to reflect on my week 🙂
I am leaving this post up to share that when we know better we do better. I no longer use Dr. Seuss in my classroom nor celebrate his birthday. Read Across America is NOT about Dr. Seuss. Seuss was known to create racist political cartoons and some of the basis of his children’s book are not uplifting to the global majority (ie. Cat & the Hat). Here’s an article to get educated on Seuss. If you have older students, it would be a great opportunity to discuss what is written in the article to view the books in their correct perspective.
Did you know it was READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY? Did you know it was DR. SEUESS’ birthday?! If you didn’t, maybe you live in a cave 😉
We were already working on measurement so the cat in the hat’s hat was the PERFECT fit for non-standard measurement!
We found items around the room that were close to the measurement of several hats!
Such a fun touch of Dr. Seuss that fit with the standard {don’t you love with that happens??}!
The moment Monday was over, I turned my classroom over to the leprechauns 😉 I may or may not be very excited for March!
I found the cutest banner at Target. Now all I need is a Silly McGilly to visit…
We have gone adjective crazy…
I have literally done 500 of these bubble maps and writings {okay not 500 but close to 10…}.
But the kids seem to love it! I love how it gets them talking AND incorporating their commas in a series {see #4}!
We even popped popcorn from an air popper, tasted, described, and crafted 😉
Commas, commas, commas!
We’ve been working hard on learning our commas in a series. We’ve practiced and practiced and I must said we totally ACED that test {for REAL 95% of my class got it, when does that EVER happen!?!?!?}!
Our favorite activity was with macaroni!
{okay we can’t spell, but we know where commas go}
I love your new storefront! I did mine too 😉 Your adjective unit looks like soon much fun! Great idea to have that actual food in the center of the bubble maps! So delighted to hear that your kiddos enjoyed my Adjectives Kit! (Thanks for the shout out!) Peggy at Primary Flourish
Love the adjective unit! I am going to have to try that. I need to work more on commas too! I used the macaroni when teaching quotation marks. Thanks so much for sharing!
I just found your site and am SO GLAD I DID!!! Feverishly jotting down ideas for myself for next school year….! 🙂 Sometimes we get so caught up in curriculum or schedules that we forget to just have fun and that simple is best!!! Thank you so much for the reminder!!
