We’re back with another “Books Bloggers Love” post! I am OVER THE MOON excited about the book I am going to share with you today! It’s the perfect addition to my back to school read aloud collection.
Please Mr. Panda!
Okay, come on, just the cover is TOO MUCH CUTENESS! I love his little face. It reminds me of one of my favorite emojis, I call it the “Oh Lord not again” face.
I use that face a lot, ask anyone I text. Since there’s no eye rolling emoji, this does the trick 😉 Tangent: have you seen this post about Teacher Emojis?? It will have you ROLLING!
Back to the book at hand, I came across this book at the Scholastic Warehouse Sale back in May. You can ask anyone there, I was squealing with joy and made several of the other girls buy it just because of the cover.
I bought it.
Then I read it.
Then I decided that was the best decision of my life.
Plus there’s a lemur in it. Who doesn’t like a cute lemur?
I found a youtube video that basically tells the whole story without me having to type it all out. #lazyfingers
Cute, RIGHT!? Oh em gee that Panda’s face. Just rowing in a boat.
Well, I basically use it the same way the panda does in the book!
I bought some donuts {we aren’t allowed to bring them to school anymore, so I will have to think of something else to use that kids will die over}.
I walked around the room and skipped all the kids who didn’t use manners to get a donut {so if they said please, I gave them one}. You can rig it a bit by asking, “Which donut do you want?” Then they will just demand and you can say, “I’ve changed my mind.”
Next I read the book, while only some kids ate donuts and the other ones cried {yes, this is a kind of cruel lesson…but it sticks okay!?}
After, we discussed why the lemur at the end got ALL the donuts and why the kids eating donuts got some too.
They figured it out pretty quick.
It’s a fun way to teach manners and get it stuck in their brains pretty quickly 😉
Okay, I’m not that cruel, I went back around the class to the students who forgot their manners and tested it out again. They definitely remembered the next time around!
Need more ideas for back to school? My Pinterest board is chalk full of goodies!
Love this and the lesson it teaches. If your district is like mine because donuts are unhealthy, I have two ideas for you. 1 get donut erasers or donut stickers(I prefer the erasers) or take the round eggo waffles and use a biscuit cutter to cut a whole in the center so it looks like a donut but is healthy. They have maple and other favors that the kids would love. I love the story and hope I win!
