Hey people! I am so excited to announce a new blog series with my children’s book lovin blogger friends! Just in time for Back to School!
Each month we will blog about a favorite read aloud in our classroom, maybe hand out a freebie or two to go along with our book, and give away FOUR of the twelve books!
This month, we are blogging about some Back-To-School books some of you may need in August {shhhhh don’t talk about back to school}!

This book is adorable.
It shares picture after picture of dinosaurs acting angry after not getting their way. They throw things, they break things, they even say mean things.
This is a perfect “first week of school” book {or for any community circle discussion or social skills lesson}. This is especially great for young kids who have yet to learn how to cope when they feel angry or things don’t go their way.
I love to read this to my little firsties.
We start with making circle map of “angry”. What does it look like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like?
Then I read the story.
After, we add to our original circle map, just in case we missed any ideas of why we might get angry or what we might do when we get angry.
Next, we brain storm on a new circle map how we should react when we are angry.
For an extension, I made these sheets. Students draw what makes them angry/how they might react/how they should react. Then they write it in sentences. I made two options: one with sentence frames and one without.

Thank you for sharing this book and your ideas. This is perfect for the first weeks of school. I can use this read aloud with my second graders when we learn what a "peaceful learning community" feels like, looks like, and sounds like. This is definitely going on my amazon wish list!
