This past week we had Back to School Night! It was my first BtSN that I conducted entirely on my own {at my previous school, we did it as a grade level}. I think it went really well! It was nice to meet several parents and have them see my personality, room, style, and intention {yes, until I meet them, I’m convinced they think I want to hurt their child…first grade parents get crazy at the beginning of the year…}.
So here’s a little tour of my classroom & a bit of info on my Back to School Night all rolled into one post.
Let’s start with Back to School Night….
I used the PowerPoint from Ladybugs Teacher Files to put all of my BtSN info into one pretty ppt!
When the parents first walked in they were given the opportunity to “Lend a Hand” to our classroom! I cut out little kid hands, wrote some items we need, and laid them out. A no-pressure way to ask parents to give to your classroom 🙂
Next the parents were asked to sign-in. I have a Parent-Sign In, a Volunteer Sign-In {to let me know who wants to help out & when they can do so}, and Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-Ups along with Reminders for them to fill out so I can send it out as the time approaches.
On each child’s desk, I put a whole large packet of information {common core pamphlets from my school, All About First Grade Brochure by A Teachable Teacher, Tips for Building Skills at home in every subject from Primary Junction, Check Out My Work magnet for my students to put their work up at home from Learning in Wonderland, Teacher Info magnets I ordered from Vista Print, an opportunity for parents to leave their child a sweet note of encouragement, and of course some work my little kiddies have been working on}.
Here’s a closer look at some of those items:
Now onto just some classroom pics, hope you enjoy!
{It’s not quite where I want/need it to be, but it will do for now, it’s only week 3 okay!?}
The writing center isn’t quite up and running yet…check back later 😉
Welcome to the library! I love my sign. My school has a die cutter, yes I know that’s ancient, but I’ve never experienced one before & I went a little crazy with it to make my sign 🙂
Oh ya & check out those little lights! I can’t wait for the kids to get in there and read with twinkly lights!
We haven’t opened out library yet, but soon soon friends!
BUT THAT RUG!? RIGHT!? PUFFY PINK HEARTS ALL AROUND!
Up there in the right corner, my kiddos made their own alphabet to review at the beginning of the year. You can grab my template for that here.

The writing you used on your birthday wall- (jan, feb, etc.) what font is that? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I love the way it looks!
