You Oughta Know About… The “Eye” Spy Jar
Hey Friends!
I am excited to be a part of this month’s “You Oughta Know” hosted by Buzzing with Mrs. McClain!
Here’s a wonderful idea I borrowed and changed for my own classroom from the ever talented Katie Knight, Teacher to the Core!
ENTER..the “Eye” Spy Jar…
In my class, it acts as our marble jar. Our whole-class incentive.
If “eye” spy something wonderful {like quietly working, walking in line, following directions…}, they get a googly eye in the jar!
They sure do get double googly eyes if another adult pays them a compliment!
Okay so maybe my firsties don’t quite get the play on words here, but they get the concept of “I SPY”. So anytime I need some peace, I say, “I SPY….” and they all get right to work to earn their eyes.
Once they fill the jar up, party time 🙂
I reward them with a short movie, a popcorn party, a popsicle party, even some extra GonoOdle time works for them too {how easy is that??}! It doesn’t have to be extravagant or difficult. Just add some time to something your students already enjoy {maybe centers, recess, or reading time}.
I found the chalkboard jar at Michael’s on sale for 70 cents! I grabbed some googly eyes & paint pens from Michael’s too! I think the whole thing was under $5! Super easy to make & the kids love it!

Katie from Teacher to the Core does it a little different, she even has some free printable eyes and labels, check it out!
